Temperature. It is worth noting that Auburn, California, generally enjoys cooler temperatures than Sacramento, thanks to its higher elevation. Situated in the Sierra Nevada foothills, Auburn benefits from a milder climate, often remaining 5 to 10 degrees cooler than the valley below. This elevation advantage not only makes summers more comfortable but also enhances the overall appeal of living in the foothills.

In addition to the above events, Auburn also hosts other festivals and celebrations throughout the year, such as film festivals, craft shows, food festivals, and home and garden shows. Lakes & Rivers. ​Auburn is also some awesome water for those summer days. Lake Clementine is a great place to cool down in the summer. The reservoir is open to boat traffic, a water skiing, surfing and wakeboarding. However, it is possible to quietly enjoy the lake for kayaking, rowing, and fishing. A popular hiking, running, and mountain biking trail courses from the dam area, continues downstream below the 730 Ft. (220 m) in height Foresthill Bridge. The trail also connects to a large network of hiking, running, and mountain biking trail systems stretching eastward into the Sierra Nevada mountain range, near Lake Tahoe.

There is also Fuller Lake in Nevada City, Rollins Lake in nearby Colfax, (a personal favorite), and Sugar Pine in Alta. (Per Wikipedia)

​The North Fork of the American River originates in eastern Placer County in the Tahoe National Forest. ​It flows west and then southwest, passing the town of Colfax and on through Clementine/North Fort Reservoir; it meets the Middle Fork of the American four miles below the North Fork Reservoir Dam near the town of Auburn and flows past the site of the abandoned Auburn Dam.
